Summary Intel on Shepard Humphries

I am not “normal” and if I shared this post with you, you probably are also “different” from the 98 next people who will drive past mile marker 123. I am great at some things, and not great at others. Rather than learning things about me after we have worked together in ventures, let me be upfront with you. 🙂 Here is some summary intel on Shepard Humphries:

Absolutely horrible at or should not be responsible for:

  • Algebra, trigonometry and other advanced maths
  • Coding, engineer-level interwebs things
  • Micro aspects of engineering, physics, chemistry, etc
  • Rote maintenance or buildout
  • Appreciating that words like “maths” and “interwebs” don’t belong in professional writings
  • Getting on the phone and making cold calls
  • Supervising people
  • Living full-time in a city

Probably only slightly better than average at:

  • Preparing and understanding P&Ls and other financials
  • Starting a SaaS

Better than the next 95 people who will drive past mile marker 123.

  • Using AI, I have been a moderate user since December of 2022.

  • Clear-headedness, putting ego aside
  • Inventiveness, creativity & conceptualizing
  • Discovering the things I am horrible at and positioning myself accordingly, hiring those who make up for my weaknesses
  • Earning respect & friendship
  • Explaining complex things to individuals or small groups in an understandable way

Better than the next 996 people who will drive past mile marker 123.

  • Integrity, intellectual consistency, principle-based decision-making
  • Reason, logic & critical thinking

Some principles I hold, which make 75% of great opportunities a poor fit.

I don’t do things that I think are wrong.

  • I don’t deal with any organization who takes money from me or others without consent. I know that local, state and federal governments have a lot of money that they are loose with, however my principles don’t allow me to dip into that bucket of loot.
  • While I appreciate the OPM model, I have never became comfortable with it, I don’t think it is evil or anything, it is similar to my view of being in debt, my foundational preferences are bootstrapping and being debt-free.
  • I am philosophically opposed to IP.  Trademarks, copyrights and patents are, in my admittedly unconventional worldview, not OK.
